System Requirements

Please note that the information below is applicable only to the old (distributed) versions of e-Classifieds. If you are using one of the newer on-demand versions, there are absolutely no system requirements at all. You don't even need a server or a web hosting company!

All of the distributed versions of e-Classifieds can be installed on either Unix web servers (Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, etc.) or Windows NT/2000/2003/2008 web servers. The server must have Perl 5 installed and functioning properly, although this is usually not an issue, as virtually all modern web servers already have it installed. You also must have the rights to upload files to your server using FTP or some other method, and you must have the rights to run your own CGI programs on the server. You will also need a mail program installed on the server, such as Sendmail on Unix servers (you can also use drop-in sendmail replacements such as qmail or Exim), or a mail program such as Blat or Windmail if you are on a Windows server. You can also use a local SMTP server for sending mail. Most web hosting accounts these days should satisfy the above requirements, but if yours doesn't, you should ask your web hosting company to enable the missing features or switch to another web hosting company that has them, such as our Hagen Hosting division.
